Why teaching social studies is important?
As with any other educational activity, teaching about global issues carries an additional responsibility: to allow people to express their hopes for the world's future and enable them to act on those. Key issues facing this and future generations are not confined within national or even regional boundaries. Pollution, migration, conflict, drug trafficking, disease and unemployment are global issues. In educating the global citizen, the purpose is to illuminate how personal, national and global interests are linked. We live in one world—we breathe the same air, use the same water, depend on the same resources and share the same emotions. In a very real sense, global issues are relevant to preparing young people for life in an increasingly interdependent world. The global village becomes more and more real for each succeeding generation.

What can I do to make things better?
More and more, young people are asking me this encouraging question: What can I do to make things better? My advice is always start by learning and looking around you. Get to know people whose lives are different from yours. Find out what you have in common with them. Build bridges of understanding with them. It is only by doing so that we can truly appreciate the worth of others. We do so whether we are sharing our lunch with someone sitting next to us, or exchanging e-mail greetings with someone at the other end of the world.
Computers and modems help us talk and listen to each other across oceans. But that would not do us much good if we did not already have a lot in common. Every society needs shared values: for our global society, that is respect for our equal human rights. We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skins -- but we all belong to one human race. We are all part of the same human family -- and when one part of that family does well, we all do better. So we want to help others to have the same opportunities we have.

Once you have created a bridge with others, keep it open by talking to each other and, above all, by listening. This is what I try to do in my job as Secretary-General, because I know that once I have built up trust with someone, we can work to change things together. So can you. When you see something that is wrong, no matter how big the problem is, ask yourself: Who else would like to change this? How can we work together? Take action with others who share your conviction. Have the courage to believe you can make a difference. As with everything in life, small steps count. If something has not been done before, it does not mean it can't be done; it only means you could be the first to do it.

Gandhi helped greatly to the independence india is because the British were very abusive in his government…. as a result of this a long time through a peaceful independence could thank the last viceroy of England, Gandhi was very pacific and was called by many religions Muslim, Hindu, Christian, etc..… and he wanted the india pacifica, but what we got was two religions who did not agree on whether and distribution of the two religions, and this is a difference between the two religions.

When the leader of the Muslims know that India get their independence, he take advantage of this situation and put their particular interests like a priority, and require a proper territory and laws, for this reason suggest two options to Gandhi, give Pakistan to the Muslims or have an civil war .Gandhi solve to give Pakistan to the Muslims because he had do many things to get the no-violence and he was not going to let that occur a civil war between Hindus and Muslims. Because before the independence th Hindus and the Muslims had a reason in common to fight for, their independence. But after India finally was a free country they had nothing left to fight for as brothers and they also had to choose their government, so the muslims were woried that they had to live in a country ruled by the Hindus. So they started fighting but Gandhi stoped them with his hunger strike.
So they created Pakistan a Muslim country because thy didn´t wanted to live in a country ruled by Hindus, and they could live in peace.

In that time, Pakistan was part of India. The creation of Pakistan as a country is the result of the internal conflict between muslims and hindu people, two of the biggest ethnics groups of India; both wanted the politic power of the country, mainly because of the fear that they had to be wretched by its opponents. So, they decided that the best choose was to create a new country in which muslims could live and the rest of India will belongs from hindu people. That was a good alternative to avoid a civil war. The problem is that they didn't create an internal war, but a war between two countries that were suposed to be join.
