Why teaching social studies is important?
As with any other educational activity, teaching about global issues carries an additional responsibility: to allow people to express their hopes for the world's future and enable them to act on those. Key issues facing this and future generations are not confined within national or even regional boundaries. Pollution, migration, conflict, drug trafficking, disease and unemployment are global issues. In educating the global citizen, the purpose is to illuminate how personal, national and global interests are linked. We live in one world—we breathe the same air, use the same water, depend on the same resources and share the same emotions. In a very real sense, global issues are relevant to preparing young people for life in an increasingly interdependent world. The global village becomes more and more real for each succeeding generation.

What can I do to make things better?
More and more, young people are asking me this encouraging question: What can I do to make things better? My advice is always start by learning and looking around you. Get to know people whose lives are different from yours. Find out what you have in common with them. Build bridges of understanding with them. It is only by doing so that we can truly appreciate the worth of others. We do so whether we are sharing our lunch with someone sitting next to us, or exchanging e-mail greetings with someone at the other end of the world.
Computers and modems help us talk and listen to each other across oceans. But that would not do us much good if we did not already have a lot in common. Every society needs shared values: for our global society, that is respect for our equal human rights. We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skins -- but we all belong to one human race. We are all part of the same human family -- and when one part of that family does well, we all do better. So we want to help others to have the same opportunities we have.

Once you have created a bridge with others, keep it open by talking to each other and, above all, by listening. This is what I try to do in my job as Secretary-General, because I know that once I have built up trust with someone, we can work to change things together. So can you. When you see something that is wrong, no matter how big the problem is, ask yourself: Who else would like to change this? How can we work together? Take action with others who share your conviction. Have the courage to believe you can make a difference. As with everything in life, small steps count. If something has not been done before, it does not mean it can't be done; it only means you could be the first to do it.

When you done a hunger strike after they became independent when Muslims and Hindus are fought. Gandhi helped to reflect on what they were doing, because almost dies.

In my opinion the most impressive part of the movie was when the militaries killed the Muslims and Hindus children’s and adults without a just reason , I fell so bad because I see the wickedness ,hate and spite that have their militaries in their hearts ,they kill miles of persons in an unpunished form ,without thinking that they have human rights ,and that are humans that Merit respect and dignity.

For me the most impressive part was the two hunger stikes that Gandhi made. Because it showed how determined he was, he prefered to die himself instead of any other person, and he didn't stopped fasting until he was sure nobody was getting killed no matter how weak he was.

But the most impressive part was when all india and pakistan marched through the death of gandhi and olways British people marched, and the same British said that gandhi was a very intelligent person and a part of the film show it:
when they arrested gandhi and say that is under fians and they have to pay a lot of money to get out of the jail and they don't pay and left him free without pay!

It depends on the meaning of the word "impressive": I mean, in the "bad" meaning of impressive, in my opinion, is the part in which the british soldiers attacked the hundreds of muslims and hindu people that were making a peaceful manifestation following gandhi's words and ideas, fighting with out violence and what they received were deaths and sadness. But, if we are talking about "impressive" in it's good meaning, i think that the most impressive parts were the ones in which the movie shows us the hunger strikes that Gandhi realize during it's life in the moments in which people lost control and started to figth with violence.

For my the most impressive part was when after of all the effort to have arrived at the point to be to a step to obtain their dependence Gandhi stopped all the manifestation and it made them give back themselves so that it wanted a clean defeat and that the English understood that they wanted a clean independence in that all agreed nonforced. And also in the fight between the Muslims and the Hindus. I think that was a very interesting movie.

The most impressive part of the film was when the britain army killed the indian's and muslims people, who were doing a general strike because they where figting for their rigths, and when they where in front of the army they only stay there and didn't figth back. The army didn't care that in all that croud were also women and children defenceless.
